Farmers warned of locust threat in their farmlands

Chennai: New reports have come out saying locusts from the state are wreaking havoc on some agricultural farms.

“Locusts are making havoc here and damaging crops.” said R N Kothari, the deputy commissioner for agriculture in the southern state of Tamil Nadu.

“Locusts are spreading the disease. They are flying around on a very high altitude and their movement is erratic.”

The locusts’ larvae crawl up into the leaf stalk and, as they descend, carry away insects and other organisms inside.

While this flies out with their prey, the rest of the larvae then come back into the leaf stalk.

Rakshasas, which are insects, are believed to be the locusts’ only food source.

Mr Kothari said that his department has issued advice to agricultural people to monitor the leaf stalks in each farm.

“These leaf stalks have to be screened for locust activity for six weeks. It’s best for people not to disturb the stalks,” he told HT.

Locusts will spread this disease if enough larvae make its way to fields across the state and eventually spread to the next crop.

Locusts in Andhra Pradesh, Jharkhand and other parts of Maharashtra are also known to spread diseases such as tularemia, dengue, and moth fever. 바카라사이트
